Part of getting the word out on a new book is sending ARCs (Advance Reader Copy) to potential reviewers. The hope, of course, is that they’ll like the book enough to provide a blurb for inside the book or the back cover, one of those “can’t put it down” type of comments. The other is that they’ll write a nice review on Goodreads, and later, on Amazon or other booksellers once the book is officially for sale.
To be fair to reviewers, the publisher has to give the reviewer sufficient time to read the book, usually a month to six weeks. But teeing up the reviewer should be done well in advance of that. All this to say that I have done that and some (though not all) of my advance reviewers have gotten back to me and so far it seems like Midnight Schemers is striking all the right notes. Here’s a recap of the early reviews, with much thanks to the authors who took time out of their lives to read the anthology, and write a review.

“What you see in the title is what you get with this book…twenty-two distinctive tales. It took me a while to read the entire book. These stories m like mini novels, in their power. I needed breathing time between them to mull over what made the twists work and what the authors had done to cleverly enable me to hold my breath in belief suspension for the length of their tale. There’s not a clunker in the bunch.”—Joan Leotta, multi-nominated author and storyteller (note: Joan’s review is quite lengthy. To read it in its entirety, click here)

“Editor Judy Penz Sheluk has assembled a stellar group of crime fiction authors for this extraordinary collection. Storytelling at its best!”— David Bart, short-story specialist, contributor to the Anthony Award-winning Mystery Writers of America anthology “Crime Hits Home.”

“From thieves in a seedy Detroit bar to a nasty murder in Santa Cruz, Midnight Schemers & Daydream Believers reflects the creative knack of editor Judy Penz Sheluk, who has arranged these extraordinary stories by a host of talented authors into one fascinating anthology”—Wil A. Emerson, multi-published Derringer nominee.

“The twenty-two stories in Midnight Schemers and Daydream Believers encompass desire, dreams, and revenge in such a varied way that I had to read it cover to cover in one sitting!   Debra H. Goldstein, award-winning author.
