With my golf buddies Rosie and Margy.

According to my mother, the day I was born the temperature in Toronto soared to 104F (40C). My mother, may she rest in peace, wasn’t averse to a bit of exaggeration if it aided a story, but I expect it was darn hot in a hospital room without the aid of air conditioning. All this to say I’ve always loved a hot day, crave heat the way a junkie might crave heroin, and without question summer is my absolute favorite season.

I also love golf. Not that I’m a great golfer — though this year I finally (after years of trying) broke 50 for 9 holes (with a 47!!!). We won’t talk about the next game, where I duffed my way to a 57. Seriously, that is one humbling game.

On the work front, I’ll admit I didn’t do a lot — as you might have noticed from my sporadic blog posts – but I did manage to finish the last draft of my next Step-by-Step book (Self-publishing: The Ins & Outs of Going Indie) which will be released in November. My fabulous editor, Ti Locke, completed her edits about a week ago, and so this month’s job it to finalize the book based on her extensive feedback. I’ll be posting more about the book in coming weeks.

moldy mattress!

My husband and I also purchased a house “in town,” about a 45-minute drive from the Lake Superior cottage (or camp as they are known in Northern Ontario) we’ve been living at the past year. We’re keeping the camp — it’s an amazing place — but winters can be harsh on the lake, and sometimes it’s nice to be in town after a long day of golf or a dinner out. Needless to say, we were excited to close on July 21, and while everything went well as far as the sale, our items in storage didn’t fare nearly as well. Seems there was a leak in the storage unit where we’d had our goods since the previous July, and beyond dishes and vases, pretty much all our belongings (artwork, furniture, books, bedding, small appliances, office printer/shredder etc.) were ruined beyond repair. We can only hope the storage company’s insurance will treat us fairly, though the process does seem to be taking a very long time. Thankfully, we have our place on the lake. And lawn chairs to sit in at the house!

All this to say it’s been a heckuva summer. I’ll try to be a bit better about posting on Saturdays going forward (though I am getting company mid September for a week so…no promises). I’m also going to be including a few more guest author posts, starting with Winona Kent next Saturday, September 16th.

Stay tuned…and thanks for reading!
