In a time when most news is bad, it was wonderful to learn that A Sure Thing by C.C. Guthrie has been shortlisted for a 2020 Derringer Award in the Short (1001 to 4000 word) category. In all, 101 stories were submitted to the Short category.

For those who don’t know what a Derringer Award is: the Derringers are the short mystery world’s equivalent to the Oscars (without the money, gold statue, fancy clothes, jewelry or swag bags). But, still a big deal in our small world.

A Sure Thing is included in The Best Laid Plans: 21 Stories of Mystery & Suspense, published by Superior Shores Press in June 2018.
