A while back, I shared the news of the storage unit flood that destroyed most of our belongings, artwork included, but hey, I’m an eternal optimist, even when life seems inclined to give me more lemons than lemonade. Part of being an optimist means looking for the bright side, and I found a piece of that in the joyful works of Sault Ste. Marie artist, Amy Williams.
I first saw Amy’s work in September 2023 at the Sylvan Art Circle Tour. I’m not one to make instantaneous decisions (mostly because when I do, I regret them), but the joy in her work stayed with me. In November 2023, I sought her out at a local (Soo) Christmas Craft Show. The piece I fell for at Sylvan had long sold but Amy assured me she loved to take on commissions. We connected the following week, discussed concepts, color pallets and optimum size, and I shared some photos of our view at our camp in Goulais River. The result was Summer on Superior, an 18″ x 24″, acrylic on canvas.
I’ve since commissioned Amy to create two additional pieces for me. My favorite is the 32″ diameter Superior Moon.
Amy’s signature style is influenced by the rugged beauty of Northern Ontario. The wonderful thing is that she offers art for all budgets, offering originals on canvas in varying sizes (small to large), canvas prints from originals, and framable prints starting at $23 CAD. Recently, she put several pieces on sale, and though many have sold, there are still some available at a discounted price.
In March 2024, Amy will be one of 70+ artists taking part in the online Sweet 16 Art Show, where all works will be 16″ square and priced at $400 CAD (approx. $296 USD) + shipping and handling. Seriously, what’s not to love?
I encourage you to learn more about Amy and her work at artbyamywilliams.com. And if you find something that speaks to you, be sure to tell her that “Judy sent you.”
Love Amy’s work! I, too, am an ‘artist’…when not writing, I paint. It’s such a soothing activity. I would like to be as vibrant, daring as Amy…but then…only one Michael Angelo. Amy..hats off to you. And thanks, Judy, for sharing.
Thanks for visiting Wila!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I am glad you enjoy painting. It certainly is a source of joy for me too!
