I admit it. I waste at least an hour every day (and sometimes more) doing several New York Times Games. It started with Wordle and has expanded to include the Mini Crossword (I love NYT Crosswords, but buy the spiral-bound Monday to Friday editions, which I always complete in pencil (never pen), Connections (Love it but don’t always get there in time), LetterBoxed, and Spelling Bee. My least favorite Spelling Bees are the ones that include “ed” and “ing” because it increases the number of words tenfold and then it becomes boring. And some of the words they won’t include (vs. some they will) are head-scratchers but…play it long enough and you get the gist. The thing is, I will not quit until I reach Queen Bee (though once I reach Genius, I will use Spelling Bee Buddy). In Canada, NYT has introduced Zorse as a beta test. I don’t love this one but I will do it some days.
Anyway, this goes a long way to explaining why my daily word counts are sometimes compromised — or written well into the night. But I like to think that I am keeping my brain sharp and I’ve definitely learned a few new words!

Solving Wordle with a strong cup of coffee starts each day. Then I log into Quordle…
Debra, a few people have mentioned Quordle. Sigh. I might have to add that one. But when will I write?
I start my day with the NYT games, too, Judy. I strive for Genius level on Spelling Bee but have never made Queen Bee. What is interesting to me is how the mind works — a word I simply didn’t see earlier becomes blindingly obvious when I return later for another try.
That is true, Amanda. Often it’s the easiest word that I don’t get until the end. What I do is once I’ve made Genius, I will go to “hints” and Spelling Bee Buddy. There is a list of letters left and first 2, e.g. 3-TO, 2-TE and in an another area, it will show how many T’s are left and the number of letters. That is usually enough to spur me on. Very occasionally, I will go to Community and read the hints. I am obsessed with reaching Queen Bee :-). BUT, you can now go back to the archives and pick up any games you haven’t completed to Queen Bee level. Of course, you may actually have writing to do 🙂
