After taking a much needed break, I’ve been thinking of publishing another multi-author anthology under my Superior Shores Press imprint. To recap, the first three are:
The Best Laid Plans: 21 Stories of Mystery & Suspense (June 2019)
Heartbreaks & Half-truths: 22: Stories of Mystery & Suspense (June 2020)
Moonlight & Misadventure: 20 Stories of Mystery & Suspense (June 2021)
As you can see, each collection has a theme, and so the first step was to come up with a theme that would work in the realm of mystery or suspense. I also like alliteration! It took a few weeks of jotting down ideas and ditching them, but I’ve finally landed on a great concept.
The current plan is to send a call for submissions in October 2023 with a submission window of 60 days or 80 submissions, whichever comes first. Of those received, I expect to accept about 20 stories, and while well-known short story authors are always welcome, I’m equally open to submissions from aspiring authors.
Unlike previous anthologies, this will be restricted to new (unpublished) stories but for those of you with reprints looking for a new home, I have tentative plans to release a reprints only anthology, timing TBD.
Publication is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2024. If you follow this blog or my newsletter and want advance notice of the theme and terms, simply Contact Me with Anthology Update in the subject line, and I’ll add your name and email address to my advance mailing list (don’t worry, I won’t do anything nefarious with your email). It won’t give you preferential treatment as far as acceptance, but it will give you an extra couple of weeks to start working on a story.
In the meantime, if you want an idea of the types of stories I accept, please check out one or more of the previous anthologies (click on the title links above for the Universal Book Link).
Go for it!
Go for what Kathleen?
You have the best ideas, Judy. I love reading your blog posts on Saturday when there are fewer email messages blaring from my inbox. I see you have some links at the top of your blog posts. What is reddit? An idea for a future post: explain your website sections.
Hope you will travel to Malice again sometime!
Beth
Thanks Beth. I hope to get to Malice next year — we’ll see how it goes! And I will consider your idea for a future post. To be honest, I’ve never used Reddit but it was one of the share options LOL.
