Run Away by Harlan Coben
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the first book by Harlan Coben that I’ve read, but it definitely won’t be my last. The writing is polished, the characters well defined, and the plot interesting. In fact, I probably would have given this 5 stars six months ago but for whatever reason a lot of the books I’ve read recently feature either a cult or something to do when DNA testing labs, and while Coben’s take on both is a fascinating study in human nature and what we’ll do to protect our secrets, many of the story elements felt familiar to me. That said, it’s a heck of a book, and well worth reading. 4.5 stars.
Harlan Coben is popular. I only read the one nominated for an Agatha for best children ‘s mystery. A YA, I didn’t like it and the reviews were mixed. Fans said the character of the uncle, his MC in his series, wouldn’t have reacted to his nephew the way Coben wrote him in the YA series. Food for thought on characterization.
Interesting. I’m not a YA reader (in fact, the only YA books I’ve read are a couple by a friend of mine, and one purchased in error), so I’m not sure what the protocols are, but I know you read a lot of it, so I’d bow to your judgment. I quite liked this book, but I’ll need to read a couple more to define an overall impression of his writing. Thanks for chiming in.
