The Girl from Widow Hills by Megan Miranda
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I’ve read all of Megan Miranda’s books for adults now, and I have enjoyed them all. That said, this one wasn’t my favorite. I liked the premise — a young woman trying to reinvent herself after being “The Girl from Widow Hills” 20 years ago, when she was found after 3 days of braving a storm sewer after sleepwalking. That girl had been exploited by her mother, who wrote a book about it, as well as the media.
In present day, a dead man is found on her property with ties to her past. There’s a lot of back and forth with a neighbor and her hospital pals (she’s in admin) but to me there seemed to be a fair bit of word padding/repetition. The book still moved along at a good pace, and Miranda’s a good writer, but…it just seemed a bit…padded.
The ending was twisty, and while not entirely unexpected, it was satisfying. I’ll definitely follow this author, at least into the next book. A worthwhile read.
GOODREADS RATING SYSTEM:
5: It was amazing
4: really liked it
3: liked it
2: It was okay
1: didn’t like it
Sounds like a great book. I loved twisted endings.
Her books are good, but this isn’t one of her best, Kathleen. You might try All The Missing Girls. And a GREAT suspense I just finished was The Poison Garden by Alex Marwood.
