While my reading preferences usually fall into the mystery/suspense camp, every now and again I hear about a book that is a must-read. Because reading is subjective, those “must reads” don’t always resonate with me. Such is not the case with The Nightingale. At 593 pages, it is a commitment, but in my opinion, one well worth taking on.

The NightingaleThe Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Heartbreaking, heart-wrenching, and heartwarming in equal measure, with beautifully layered prose and a story that grips you and won’t let go. Definitely the best book I’ve read this year, and quite possibly the best book I’ve read in a very long time.
