As an author, I’ve found audiobooks to be a great fit for my mysteries. I’ve reached a new audience, and thanks to ACX (the publishing platform that I use), I’ve been able to give away 25 free US and 25 free UK download codes to Audible members for early reviews. Unfortunately, the old system had a few flaws:
- Codes were not title specific, meaning scammers could “sell” your codes or use for another book
- Books could be redeemed, listened to, then returned for a full credit
- The redemption process was multi-layered and tedious
- Codes were sent in a word document; there was no ability to know who redeemed a code, or when.
Thankfully, ACX listened to its authors and publishers and on May 9, 2019, introduced these welcome changes:
- Codes are now title specific; further, if the book is already in the user’s library, it can’t be downloaded again
- Free codes can no longer be returned for credit
- The redemption process is as easy as logging into audible.com/acx-promo or audible.co.uk/acx-promo.
- ACX has set up an online tracking system (this isn’t perfect, yet … it shows when a code is redeemed, but doesn’t leave a spot for who the code was given out to; that said, I’ve set up my own system for tracking based on the ACX model)
To launch this new program, ACX has provided each author and narrator the opportunity to request 50 codes, per title, per platform (US or UK). US codes can also be downloaded in Canada.
What does any of this mean to you?
I have US and UK codes available for all 5 of my books. If you’re interested, leave a comment with your request for code(s) and I’ll get one or more to you. All I ask is that, after listening, you leave an honest review on Audible. Not an Audible member? Sign up for a free 30-day trial and start listening!

Kaye, it’s a fair bit of work to stay on top of all of this stuff, but I do think the end game is worth it.
Thanks for the information, Judy. I got the notice from them, but haven’t dug into it yet to see what it means. This sounds like it’s worthwhile pursuing for my titles already there.
