Back in October, I announced that my publishing imprint, Superior Shores Press, would be accepting submissions for its first multi-author anthology, The Best Laid Plans. I’ll admit to being a wee bit nervous. What if no one submitted? A well-rounded anthology needs 20 to 25 stories, depending on length. I spread the word here, via my newsletter, Facebook and Twitter, and received the support of many wonderful associations, including the Short Mystery Fiction Society, Sisters in Crime, and Crime Writers of Canada.
Submissions closed on January 18, 2019 and I’m beyond delighted to announce that 70 submissions were received from authors in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe. I’m now in the process of reading every story; each one will be evaluated on the basis of how well it fits within the overarching theme, as well as the overall mix required to create a well-rounded anthology. Authors will be notified of acceptance/rejection on or before March 18, 2019 at which point the really hard work will begin: compiling and formatting an Advance Reader Copy, approaching potential reviewers, and hiring a cover artist, all with the view to achieving a June 18, 2019 release date in print and all e-book formats (Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Apple Books, Google Play).
Stay tuned! The best of the Best Laid Plans is still to come.
Aw, shoot! I missed or overlooked your call for submissions. Hopefully I can submit something when you put together another anthology. Best of luck with this one, Judy. I hope it’s a rousing success! 🙂
Thanks Michael. We’ll see how this one goes before we plan the next one!
I agree with Michael! Best of luck with this first anthology, Judy. I love the title!
Thanks so much Connie!
I admire your determination to take on this huge project.
I don’t envy having to select among all these entries.
It’s fun, reading all the stories!
It’s going to be a great collection, Judy. Thanks for all your hard work reviewing the submissions.
Thanks Debbie, lots of reading ahead, and so far, really good stories. It will be difficult to choose.
Congratulations, Judy, for taking on another new venture. You certainly like a challenge.
Hi Grace, it certainly seems that way!
