Five Stars!

I love to read, and I rate and review the books I’ve read on Goodreads. What I don’t do is post every one of those reviews on my blog because I like to reserve my reviews for books I really want my followers to check out. That brings me to LOOK THE OTHER WAY by Kristina Stanley.

Now I’ll be honest with you. I bought the Kindle of this book ages ago, because I really enjoy her Stone Mountain Mystery Series, which includes DESCENT, BLAZE, and AVALANCHE. But LOOK THE OTHER WAY was billed as a standalone romantic suspense (I don’t really “do” romantic), and so it sat forgotten on my Kindle. That’s the problem with e-readers vs. paperbacks sitting on your bookshelf—you don’t “see” them every day. Anyway, last week, looking for something different to read, I scrolled through my Kindle and decided to give LOOK THE OTHER WAY a try. I found myself reading a page or two whenever I had a moment to spare and finished it in three days.

Stanley is a natural born storyteller who just keeps getting better with every book, but she also spent several years sailing the Bahamas with her husband, and her knowledge of the area and boats is evident in every well written page. There’s also a cute scene featuring her current Wheaton Terrier, Farley, star of Farley’s Fridays on her website/blog.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

A year after her Uncle Bobby mysteriously disappears in the turquoise waters surrounding the Bahamas, Shannon Payne joins her grieving aunt to trace Bobby’s last voyage. Shannon hopes the serenity of the sea might help her recover from a devastating breakup with her fiancé.

Sailing the 38-foot catamaran, A Dog’s Cat, is Captain Jake Hunter, a disillusioned cop who has sworn off women. While Shannon tries to resist her growing attraction to the rugged captain, she uncovers dark truths about her uncle’s death that might send them all to the depths.

You can also read a brief excerpt from her guest post on New Release Mondays in July 2017.

If I have one concern, it’s that Stanley says this is a standalone novel. What? Surely Shannon and Jake have more adventures on the high seas ahead of them?
