I first met Vicki Delaney (aka Eva Gates) at Bloody Words 2012 in Toronto. The bi-annual conference ended in June 2014, but it will always be fondly remembered by Canadian writers and readers as “one of the best.” At the time, I was a “wannabe” writer and meeting published authors, especially those of Vicki’s talent and caliber, was nothing short of inspiring. She won’t remember, but she took several minutes to chat with me and offer a few tips. I’ve never forgotten that kindness, and I’ve tried to pay it forward with other wannabe/newbies now that I’m published. But enough about me and my memories…here’s the scoop on the latest Lighthouse Library mystery by Eva Gates:
Author Name: Eva Gates
Book Title: The Spook in the Stacks
Book Genre: Cozy Mystery
Release Date: June 12, 2018
Publisher: Crooked Lane Books
Synopsis: Halloween in North Carolina’s Outer Banks becomes seriously tricky when librarian Lucy Richardson stumbles across something extra unusual in the rare books section: a dead body.
It’s Halloween, and the veil between the worlds is thin. Wealthy businessman Jay Ruddle approaches the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library with a view to granting the library his extensive collection of North Carolina historical documents. But completion for the Ruddle collection is fierce. When Jay is murdered in the library’s rare books room, while a lecture on ghostly legends of the Outer Banks is happening outside, Lucy Richardson and her fellow librarians are once again trapped in a murder inquiry. Meanwhile, strange things are happening at the library – ghostly horses in the marsh, strange lights, and a model sailing ship whose tiny crew seems to move around when no one is watching. Is Lucy losing her mind? Is Louise Jane still plotting to get rid of her? Are Washington Irving’s tales coming to life? Or can it be that the Bodie Island Lighthouse really is haunted?
With The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on everyone’s minds and ghoulish gossip on everyone’s lips, Lucy will need to separate the clues from the boos if she wants to crack this case without losing her head in The Spook in the Stacks, the delightful fourth in national bestseller Eva Gates’ Lighthouse Library mysteries.
